Vashon Island is really two islands,
Vashon and Maury, connected by road at portage.
Cross to the Island on a Washington State Ferry: from
Seattle-13 minutes,
Tacoma-10 minutes, and from Southworth-10 minutes.
From big-city to country-living in
just a few minutes.
It’s a little Island,
about 11.5 miles (north to south) and 5.5 miles (east to
west).
Our village center, school system and slower pace of
living
create a wonderful feel of an old time small community.
There are approximately 10,500 people living on-Island.
Many Islanders
work in Seattle, Tacoma or Southworth and commute by
ferry. |

The rural nature of the Island
is
protected by zoning limiting parcels to
10, 5, or 2.5 acres per household. Parcels of lesser
size created prior to current zoning
were grandfathered. The purpose is to protect our
Island, the ground water/recharge areas
and quality of life. Our water is from wells and
sewerage handled by septic systems.
These factors limit the Island population. |

We have shopping areas, health
clinics, very good schools, parks and most normal
services.
There
are activities and organizations for everyone.
Garden, boat, hike, fish, farm, create arts or crafts,
or just hide away and read. Privacy and space are what
many look for. |
